- Atheism is as older as religions. While some people believe in something (Faith) above human knowledge, capacity or power, atheists just simply think that men does not need to believe in somethingh that they never have seen, touch or heard. Atheist believe in nature, the Cosmos and it's laws.
It's just a matter of natural tendency. Anyone can look at the Cosmos and feel great and inspired - the difference here is that an atheist call that intelligence and human sense of wonder, while a believer call that a testimony of the existence of the Divine.

- Atheist don't need God or Gods to live,
while believers think that without Gods, life is not complete - the superior level is missing. A world without the Divine, is like a world without colours.

- Europe is a daughter of classic Greece, where people were teach to think by themselves, to think freely, not compelled to follow this or that. Atheism born in the greek mind as a distinct way of conceiving the world. No other people on Earth are or were atheistic.
I use to think like that some months ago, but then I found out that there are references in the Bible to those who did not believe in any God. So, atheism existed amongst the Jews as well.
Also, it is important to notice that Greece was never oficially atheistic. And Socrates was sentenced to death for being accused of denying the National Gods.

- european are a people of free men and women, sons of forests, moutians, the open field of the steppes. We don't need God/Gods to live in a society of respect and discipline.
That's true. That's how we are.
However, civic respect and discipline is not enough in life.

- We have all ancient values, our principles of honour, loyalty, courage and to think by ourselves.
Yes. But still, there is something missing - the Divine dimension of all those values that you mentioned - the Divine personifications of Honos, Fides, Virtus, Mens, Libertas...
Yes, the Westerns have build a brilliant civilization - but the core of that culture is the Greek Spirit, which was, originally, religious.
Alas, the Semitic spiritual invasion erased that religious conscience and replaced it by alien dogmas and alien models of existence.
The European spiritual reaction was the Renaissance - however, since Christianity was still too strong at the time, the highest part of the ancient culture, i.e., the Religion, could not be reconstructed and thus the European Man had only one way - not being able to continue to bow to an essentially foreign mentality, the only possible way to live and think was rationalist materialism.
Hence, the contemporary lack of references and of values of so many Westerners.
Yes, we have technollogy, advanced medicine, wellfare systems, human rights, freedom of expression, television, cinema, internet, discos, dvd, etc. - but, as we speak, a new wave of spiritually Semitic invaders is at the door... they bring a(nother...) Holy Book and a tremendous determination. Their religion means everything for them; they are ready to kill and die for it; and some European spiritual vagrants are starting to be seduced by such a powerful and simple belief.
And we, true Europeans, what do we have? What do we have to face the fastest-growing religion on Earth? Human values? That's not enough.
Only a religion can face another religion - and nothing defeats the power of a religion. Nothing.
